The Orchard Shed Project
The Orchard is a community resource offering the opportunity to learn new skills then put them to work in our allotment, herb or wildflower gardens growing food or flowers. We have nature conservation projects including monitoring small mammals, building hibernation quarters for wildlife, composting with our own wormeries and recycling activities.
You could also watch the world go by, away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life in a wildlife haven in the middle of the town. We are nestled in the grounds of The Royal School for Deaf Children, Victoria Road, Margate, based in the old gardeners’ shed, which has been renovated with the help of a volunteer workforce and our own Westgate College students.

A very big thank you to Ecominds and the Big Lottery fund for giving us the funding to set up our project. Many thanks also to Cummins Power Generation for their invaluable involvement and assistance with the initial ground works and their continuing support through their volunteer group.
Finally, thanks to Emes Building Services, Chandlers Building Supplies, Thanet Waste and everyone involved in the planning and implementation of this project.
